Fun Family Activities in Eilat

May 14th 2018

Eilat is a popular tourist destination in very south of Israel, on the northern tip of the Red Sea. The city’s beautiful beaches, spectacular coral reef, vibrant nightlife, and stunning desert landscapes make it a popular vacation spot for both Israelis and international tourists.

There are many fun family activities to enjoy in Eilat, for adults and kids alike. When not swimming in the warm sea or diving with dolphins, there are a variety of museums, tours, malls, and nature observatories to explore and enjoy.

If you’re thinking of visiting Eilat soon then you’ll definitely want to check out the following activities and attractions:

Dolphin Reef

Dolphin Reef offers visitors the chance to swim and interact with bottlenose dolphins in their natural environment. Located on the shores of the Red Sea in Eilat, the ecological site features a huge sea-pen where dolphins are left to their own devices without forced human interaction. However, their friendly and inquisitive nature nearly always sees them swimming along with snorkelers and coming to watch tourists on special observation decks.

As well as the dolphin sea-pen, the site also features beautiful beaches, a snorkeling and diving center, relaxation pools, an underwater photography center, a children’s activity center, and a beach café/bar.

Underwater Observatory Marine Park

The Coral World Underwater Observatory in Eilat is the largest public aquarium in Israel. It holds more than 800 species of aquatic animals and is located in the center of a beautiful coral reef. The observatory is comprised of two large display halls that descend 12 meters under the sea and provide visitors with a clear view of the spectacular reef and all the life that live within it.

Marine wildlife you can view include sharks, turtles, seahorses, sting rays, and a multitude of fish species, as well as corals and other plant life. There are also numerous exhibits and interactive educational stations.

The Desert by Night

There’s a lot to do and see in the bustling city of Eilat but sometimes you might just want to get out into the surrounding wilderness for a bit. And what a beautiful desert wilderness there is around this Negev desert city. The best way to explore the surrounding desert is with a 3-hour jeep tour by night.

With a friendly, funny, and knowledgeable guide, you’ll learn more about the history of the area, the wildlife, and how the mountains developed as they did. You’ll also get to cook and enjoy a “Bedouin-style” dinner by a campfire and do a little after-meal night-time hiking.

Camel Ranch

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to travel by camel through the hot desert sands, then a camel ride at Eilat’s Camel Ranch will give you a fun insight. You’ll travel along desert wadis and into mountain passes while riding in a small slow-moving convoy of camels, just like the local Bedouins have done for centuries.

You don’t need prior riding experience. All the camels are relaxed, friendly, and very well-trained, and you sit comfortably in specially-made saddles. There are various different treks, suiting different parties of people, whether family-orientated or more adventurous. Each trek is led by an experienced and knowledgeable guide who shares facts and stories about the region and its history.
