The Valley of Tears

September 13th 2010

The Valley of Tears is home to one of the bloodiest battles during the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Located between a stretch of valley between Mount Hermon and Mount Bental, this area was the site of one of the largest tank battles in Israeli history. The Syrians attacked the Israeli 7th Armored Brigade with over one-thousand tanks, against only 160 Israeli tanks. In this stretch of land, the Israeli tanks were reduced to seven under very heavy enemy fire. Eventually the Syrians retreated, but the end result was a large number of casualties on the Israeli side. Though in the history books for the bloodshed, today visitors travel to The Valley of Tears and remember the Israeli courage, heroism, and strength that took place here.
