March 22nd 2011

Visit the white-domed grave of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai and learn about his fascinating role in the history of the Jewish people. Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai is known as the author of the Zohar and an important rebel against Rome. Thousands of visitors travel to his tomb in Meron every year, and the site is the main hub of celebrations on Lag Ba’Omer. You can follow a nearby path to reach the cave where Rabbi Shimon and his son spent years hiding from their Roman oppressors, nourished by the adjacent spring and a carob tree. The cave is also designated as the tomb of Hillel the Elder.
