Dalton Winery

While visiting the Upper Galilee, stop in at the Dalton Winery in Merom Hagalil for a tour and wine tasting. You’ll find the Dalton Winery amidst the luscious greenery and mountains of the Upper Galilee, just three miles from Israel’s border with Lebanon. Cold winters near Mount Hermon, hot summer days and cool summer nights combine to create superb grapes, ideal for making high-quality wine.

When you visit Dalton, you can choose from full facility tours, guided tours of the winery, barrel room and bottling line or just a wine tasting. Advance arrangements are necessary. Members of the Dalton Winery members club visit free. Membership is free and can be arranged online for those who are aged 18 and above. Group tours can be combined with a light dairy meal for an additional fee. Plan to spend 45 minutes on a tour and tasting, or longer when planning to tour the full facility and/or to have a meal at the winery.

The Tasting Room at Dalton Winery is open every day except Shabbat and Jewish holidays. Don’t miss the factory outlet shop, which sells artisanal products that were crafted in the Galilee, along with the fullest selection of Dalton Winery wines.

In 1995, the Haruni family of vintners immigrated to Israel from England. They set up temporary shop on Moshav Kerem Ben Zimra. At that location, they eventually produced 20,000 bottles of wine each year. Later, the winery moved to its own state-of-the-art facility above the Hula Valley and now produces roughly four times the output of the former location.

One of Dalton’s exceptional features is its location just minutes away from all its vineyards. Such closeness makes it possible for the winemakers to check on the growth of the grapes throughout the growing season and to determine the precise day when the vines are ready for harvesting. The especially brief travel time between the vineyards and the winery means the winemaking process begins with grapes that arrive fresh off the vine.

Combine your visit to Dalton Winery with activities for which the Upper Galilee is famous, including jeep and kayak tours, Jordan River rafting and the Canada Center for Sports, Culture and Recreation.
