Tomb of Zechariah

At the foot of the Mount of Olives lies the sacred tomb of Zechariah. Zechariah’s tomb is considered to be a great symbol of the Holy City for two reasons. The first is that the Mount of Olives is the place where the Messiah will take his first steps; and the second is the fact that Zechariah’s tomb is believed to be the burial site of the righteous priest Zechariah, the son of Jehoiada. Zachariah’s tomb is of Greek style which indicates that its physical form dates as far back as the second or the first century BCE.
