Rachel’s Tomb – Our Matriach
September 13th 2010
Rachel’s Tomb, or Kever Rahel, is located near the northern entrance to Bethlehem, on the Israeli side of the West Bank barrier. It is the burial place of Rachel, one of the four matriarchs mentioned in the Bible. Rachel is known as the eternal mother who cares for all her children during times of distress. Jewish tradition dates the tomb to this site since the fourth century CE. Venerated by the Jewish people, Rachel’s tomb is considered the third holiest site in the Jewish religion and a symbol of the Jewish people’s return to its ancient, biblical homeland. The Rachel’s Tomb Institute provides daily transportation to the tomb; all visitations need to be made in advance.
