Hagana Museum

December 2nd 2010

The Hagana Museum, or “Beit Eliyahu,” is on the site of Eliyahu Golomb’s home, one of the founders of the Hagana, the pre-state Jewish military force that later became the Israel Defense Force (IDF). The ground floor hosts a biographical display on Golomb’s life. The upper floors of the museum are a permanent exhibit using various documents, photographs, and multimedia presentations, to trace the history of the Hagana from 1878 when the first watchmen helped secure the early settlements, to the creation of the Hagana forces in 1920, Arab uprisings defended against by the Hagana in the 1920s and 1930s, to the Hagana’s fight against the British in the 1948 War of Independence.
