The Stalactite Cave Nature Reserve
The Stalactite Cave Nature Reserve, also known as Avshalom Cave or Soreq Cave, is located near the town of Bet Shemesh, on the western side of the Judean Mountains. The cave is sixty meters wide and eighty-two meters long and was accidentally discovered when workers blasted a quarry located nearby. The cave houses many stalactite and stalagmite formations, some dated at least 300,000 years of age, and enable scientists to track the change in the region’s climate over the centuries. Visitors will marvel at the huge stalactite formations and the ones that are continuing to form. Visitors to the cave are able to take in a performance as well as a guided tour.
