Yom Yerushalayim: Celebrating Israel’s One & Only City of Gold

If you’re coming to Israel at the end of May, you couldn’t have chosen a better time to visit. May 24th is Yom Yerushalayim or Jerusalem Day, and it’s a day on which the entire country celebrates the reunification of Jerusalem with the rest of Israel. This year is a particularly memorable occasion because it marks the 50th anniversary of the Six Day War, the war that gave Israel back its capital city. From street parades to concerts and memorial services, here are a few fun ways to join in the festivities and celebrate Jerusalem in Israel.

Memorial Service & Events in the Old City

The Old City of Jerusalem is alight with celebration for this special day. Join prominent political members such as the President of Israel, Prime Minister, Jerusalem’s Mayor, and Speaker of the Knesset. You’ll also enjoy a stunning light show, along with live music performances. The entire event is free of charge!

Safra Square

Get ready for some of the best music Israel has to offer with artists like Kobi Aflalo, Miri Mesika, and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra in a free concert in the square.

Flag Parade

One of the most spectacular events on Yom Yerushalayim is the Flag Parade. Thousands of people from all around the globe come together in Jerusalem, fly their flags, and show that the entire world stands together with Israel. It’s a beautiful display of solidarity and global brotherhood.

Free Tours

There will be free guided tours of major Jerusalem institutions such as the National Institutions Building, Safra Square, Teddy Park, The Wall Builders Garden, the Old City, and more.
