The Citadel

April 13th 2011

The Citadel is a beautiful park which boasts scenic views and also the remains of a historic Crusader castle, now housed in a new archeological park. Located at the upper most point of this ancient city, you can see the surrounding hills and mountains and across to the Sea of Galilee. The Citadel Park was also a strategic location and battles were fought over it from Roman times, all the way until the 1948 Israel War of Independence. A monument stands in honor of those who gave their lives to conquer Tzfat in 1948. Highlights of this park include its beautiful shrubs and trees, as well as its breathtaking views. Israel tours often encourage people to wake up early and visit the Citadel so they can enjoy the beautiful sunrise from this historic and scenic spot.
